Smoking Loon Pinot Noir 2008

Just as “Girl’s Night Out” is a rare treat so is finding a delicious Pinot Noir at a great price. Upon sitting down to indulge in way too much food, gossip and laughter, I knew I had to choose wisely. Nothing that would give me a headache in the morning and something that wouldn’t break the bank. I opted for Smoking Loon Pinot Noir 2008 and was definitely impressed.

While it was not as smoky as other Pinots, it did taste better the longer the bottle sat and the warmer the wine became. Upon the second, or third, glass (sometimes a girl loses count), the Smoking Loon became smoother and had really reached its full flavor potential.

With hints of cherry, this California red was just as enjoyable as the company I was surrounded by. A great choice for someone seeking a lighter red, the Smoking Loon Pinot Noir is an appropriate long night of girl talk kind of wine. I paired this wine choice with goat cheese and tomato bisque dip and the duo could not have been more spot on. In fact, this dynamic duo was the most coveted thing at the table. I would recommend this Pinot be paired with flavorful foods such as strong cheeses, such as goat or gorgonzola, and fish.

Restaurants may charge upwards of $23 a bottle for this Pinot Noir, often times more depending on the year. It can be purchased at retailers throughout the nation for about $10 and would make a great table wine for a casual night in.
